The objective of this thesis is to develope and applicate new methods for laser ranging and optical diagnostics with high temporal and spatial resolution. A list and theoretical discussion of methods for photon counting and of an avalanche photodiode and its properties are given. The phonon counter based on silicon avalanche photodiode is described. Its properties and possible variations with large active area of photodiode are analyzed using experimental data. Tests of photon counter based on lateral silicon avalanche photodiode are presented. The selected properties of photon counters for near infrared wavelength region, using germanium and indium-gallium-arsenide, are summarized. The results obtained using unique photon counter based on gallium-arsenide-phosphide are presented. The new method using satellite laser ranging data for the ground survey of two nearby stations is described and applied on simulated and experimental data. The method for additional software compensation of single photon avalanche detector time walk is presented and discussed. It is demonstrated in an indoor experiment. Two new techniques are presented: the raytracing of the telescope for reflected light collection and tests of the CCD based guide system for a satellite tracking.Available from STL Prague, CZ / NTK - National Technical LibrarySIGLECZCzech Republi
